Minimum Wage Laws
Do you feel that your employer may not be providing you with the correct minimum wage? There are laws in place for minimum wage for a reason. In fact, while there is a national minimum wage, there are also different laws for each state to abide by. This can make minimum wage a little tricky, especially now that many jobs are going remote. Either way, your employer must be paying you at least the current minimum wage at the state level. Contact us to learn more about minimum wage laws.
Minimum Wage for Tipped Workers
Oddly, our national minimum wage laws still indicate that there be a lower minimum wage for workers who are tipped on the job. These workers, such as waiters, bartenders, and baristas, are being compensated for their time and labor in tips as well as a minimum wage. While on slower days, this can mean that a tipped worker makes less than the federal minimum wage for a non-tipped worker, busier days could net that same worker a much higher pay than minimum wage for non-tipped workers alone. It’s a very fine and tricky line, and many people question why these types of labor laws still exist — and we’re here to help you through it all, answering any questions you may have. Contact James Hawkins, APLC today if you’re a tipped worker who may not be receiving your full, legal pay compensation.
